Kuala Lumpur: Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd (BIMB) has set a target of growing the number of its Visa debit card members to 500,000 by year end.The bank issued 27,000 Visa debit cards over the past three weeks, said its consumer banking general manager, Khairul Kamarudin, after the launch of "Debit = Myvi" campaign here.
"Prior to this launching today, we have somehow introduced this to our close customers three weeks ago and we are doing like 1,500-2000 cards per day," he said.
The "Debit = Myvi" campaign runs from today until Sept 20.
It gives cardholders the chance to win six Perodua Myvi and weekly cash prizes in the form of cash rebates.
Asked on the new credit card regulations introduced by Bank Negara Malaysia last week, Khairul said BIMB did not foresee any impact as it would not affect the evaluation process relating to credit worthiness.
"So, there's no major investment involved and requirement for the bank to change its system as it just changes one criteria, which is the minimum income," he said.
Last Friday, the central bank said the minimum income eligibility for new credit card holders was set at RM24,000 per annum.
It also said cardholders earning RM36,000 per annum and less could only hold credit cards from a maximum of two issuers and the maximum credit limit should not exceed two times their monthly income per issuer. - Bernama
