Teacher is fined for punching headmaster

Alor Setar: A teacher was on Wednesday fined RM2,000 in default four months' jail by a Magistrate's Court for punching the headmaster of a school where he had taught, four years ago.Norazman Abdul Wahab, 41, who was found guilty of committing the offence, paid the fine.

He was charged with voluntarily causing hurt by punching 52-year-old Halim Saad's face and kicking his thighs at the office of Sekolah Kebangsaan Gerigis, Jalan Langgar, Alor Setar on Dec 20, 2006 at 8.35am.

Before passing sentence, Magistrate Nor Azah Idris ticked off Norazman's lawyer, G. Ravishankar, who was not present in court, for failing to make a written submission, despite requesting him to do so.

Ravishankar was represented by Pyara Singh a/l Dara Singh.

In her decision, Nor Azah said the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt on the charge, adding that from the beginning of the hearing, only called a witness whose evidence failed to convince the court.
