Kota Kinabalu: Sabah DAP expressed regret that Kadazandusun hip-hop singer Atama (pic) was invited and then barred from performing during the Tadau Kaamatan (Harvest) celebrations at the KDCA on May 31."Organisers should be more careful and considerate when conducting events in future, especially when it involves local artistes and singers," said Member of Parliament, Hiew King Cheu.

He said Atama, 36, whose real name is Andrew Ambrose, was set to perform in front of VIPs and also thousands of spectators and fans.

However, he was stopped from going on stage purportedly by the organising committee who claimed that his scheduled performance had been cancelled, upon instructions from the "top".

This caused a heated argument between Atama and the organising committee because the Master of Ceremony had already announced that Atama would be performing.

"The music had already started playing but the organiser refused to give the microphone to Atama.

"Atama felt very disappointed because the last minute refusal had deprived him the golden opportunity to promote his new Kadazandusun album to the VIPs and fans present."

Atama, who is from Tambunan, is the son of founder of the "Bamboo Orchestra", Ambrose Mudi, a prominent local musician and the first Dusun singer to perform on RTM.

Atama was recently involved in a controversy in which he allegedly insulted Huguan Siou Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan in Facebook.

"What happened to Atama should not be repeated anywhere else in Sabah, especially during official functions," DAP said.
