BONGAWAN: The Foreign Ministry will follow-up with the Philippine Foreign Ministry on sending representatives to Sabah for the issuance of travel documents to its 45,894 citizens who registered during the 5P exercise from July 18 till Aug. 10.Minister Datuk Anifah Aman said he would pursue the matter with his Philippines counterpart soon to ensure the smooth implementation of the 5P - Registration, Amnesty, Monitoring, Enforcement and Deportation - in Sabah.

"Maybe my Ministry has received information on the matter because I have just returned from Turkey. Nonetheless, I will pursue it as soon as possible," said Anifah, who is also Kimanis MP, during a presentation of tithe and Raya contributions to 194 needy and underprivileged recipients in the Kimanis parliamentary constituency.

Daily Express quoted recently a Philippine Embassy official as saying that it had yet to receive an official request to go over to Sabah to issue travel documents to its citizens.

It said it would also need a directive from its Central Government in Manila in regard to sending their representatives to Sabah.

The Immigration Department said it faced a problem in getting Philippine representatives to come to Sabah to issue travel documents and passports to their citizens who registered in the 5P.

Anifah presented tithes from the Sabah Tithe Centre to 150 eligible recipients and duit Raya and goodies to 44 recipients, among them single mothers, special people and senior citizens at the event.

Also present were Bongawan Assemblyman Datuk Karim Bujang, Papar District Officer Iman Ali, Kimanis Umno Youth Chief Mohamad bin Alamin, Kimanis Umno Wanita Chief Maznah Abd Ghani and Special Officer to Anifah, Datuk Awang Sahak Awang Salleh.
