Kota Kinabalu: The State Government will discuss Parti Bersatu Sabah's (PBS) suggestion to the Election Commission (EC) to consider increasing the number parliamentary and state seats along the West Coast.Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, who is also State Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman, said this when approached after visiting the site of the Chief Minister and State Cabinet Hari Raya open house at the Likas Sports Complex multipurpose hall.

"We will talk about it after Hari Raya," he said. PBS Information Chief Datuk Johnny Mositun urged the EC to consider creating another one or two Parliamentary and between four and six new State constituencies between Papar and Sipitang.

Mositun had said the call was made in view of the rapid infrastructure development, economic growth and population increase along the West Coast.

He said this would not only provide for more effective and efficient political representation for the rakyat in this rapidly developing part of the State but also lighten the heavy workload and responsibilities of elected representatives.

Mositun, who is also Deputy Assembly Speaker, hoped the BN leadership would view his suggestion positively, adding it was a fact that no parliamentary constituency in Sabah was made up exclusively of one community.

He said some constituencies may consist predominantly of one community or racial group, but not exclusively.

The same with political parties, because in every parliamentary constituency there are divisions and branches of every BN party, he said, adding the same with political parties because in every parliamentary constituency there are divisions and branches of every BN party.

Deputy Chief Minister cum Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Haji Noor, Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun, Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar, State Secretary Datuk Sukarti Wakiman and his deputy Datuk Maznah Ghani, who is also the organising chairperson, among others, were also present.

Maznah, meanwhile, said they expect about 20,000 to 25,000 people to attend this year's open house that will be held on Wednesday (second day).

"Last year we targeted around 16,500 people but some 20,000 to 25,000 people came," she said.

Also this year she hoped there will be more tourists coming to sample the food.

She said the State Government spent a little bit more than last year this time around but that it is still within moderate spending.

"(Because) We hope this can be made a part of State Calendar of events, an event that can help to promote tourism in Sabah," she said.
