Kota Kinabalu: Beluran parliamentary constituency, which is about the size of Selangor, needs two parliamentary seats in order to be properly managed and developed. This is apart from creating another additional state constituency, which will see the state seats in Beluran increased to three, especially in Sugut area.

Beluran parliamentary constituency presently consists of Sugut and Labuk state consttuencies.

Beluran Umno vice chief Mahmud AG Hussin said at his Hari Raya open house in Kionsom Height, Inanam, Sunday, that these are the wishes of the rakyat in Sugut.

He was referring to the suggestion by Parti Bersatu Sabah information chief Datuk Johnny Mositun recently for the parliamentary and state seats in Sabah be increased, specifically along the West Coast from Papar to Sipitang.

"I fully support this and hope our supreme leadership will also give great consideration to the wishes of the rakyat in Beluran particularly those in Sugut, which currently is still lagging behind in development," said Mahmud.

He said Beluran parliamentary constituency presently has about 70,000 people, which made it difficult for existing elected representatives to perform their duties effectively.

"Sugut is lagging behind not because the elected representatives failed to perform but the huge area makes it difficult to bring in development there 100 per cent," he said, adding the existing Labuk state constituency can remain as it is.

Mahmud, who is also Deputy President of Sabah Takraw Association, said the increase in seats also means an increased allocations for the benefit of all living there.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun were among guests.
