Kota Kinabalu: Police here and in Tawau will soon be armed with high-tech cameras to nab speedhogs and other criminal elements.Traffic Bukit Aman Technical Procurement head, DSP Ahmad Adnan bin Basri said the two devices which cost RM250,000 each are very useful for police work.

"The launching of this high-tech camera was done in the peninsula few months ago and the Bukit Aman police headquarters decided to supply two of these each to Sabah and Sarawak.

"For Sabah, one will be handed to Sabah Police Contingent in Kepayan here and another one to Tawau Police Station," he said after the closing ceremony of a three-day course in handling the new 'Trucam' device.

A total of 33 police personnel including 12 from Selangor participated in the course.

Ahmad said the device can be used manually or automatically round-the-clock and can withstand any weather condition.

"This high-tech camera produces clear pictures in colour that can be also sent through email and it has a touch screen for better and faster handling of the device.

"The pictures also enclose details of the time and speed of vehicles including the face of the drivers or any perpetrators, which can be used as reliable evidence," he said.

Ahmad said with the Chinese New Year round the corner this device would be suitable for use during the police 'Ops Sikap' and crime prevention efforts.
