Lahad Datu: Customs personnel seized smuggled fireworks and firecrackers worth RM17,001.60, including unpaid taxes, Friday.Customs Deputy Director (Enforcement and Compliance) Hamzah Sundang said the team found all the smuggled items inside several boxes that were kept inside a car at a housing area here at 9.30am.

"The team carried out surveillance for one hour in the housing area and detected a vehicle moving into the housing area.

"The team stopped the vehicle and found several boxes containing the fireworks and firecrackers that have no Customs approval," he said.

Hamzah said a 31-year-old local man was also arrested during the bust.
