Putra Jaya: Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is optimistic that they will deliver seats enough to capture Putrajaya in the coming general election. Its Chairman, Ahmad Thamrin Jaini, said based on their analyses, assumptions, and developments on the ground, they are very optimistic that Keadilan will definitely deliver seats enough to capture Putrajaya.
He said this at a media conference after attending the Pakatan Rakyat Public Forum, entitled "Policies - A New Deal for Sabahans", in Putatan, near here.
"This is the first time we are organising a public forum in Sabah with the purpose of disseminating information and to focus on issues concerning Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI), Native Customary Rights (NCR) and the 20 per cent royalty pledge made by Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
"We have received an encouraging response from our members as well as the public and, hopefully, what was discussed during the forum can help the PR, especially PKR, in the coming election," he said.
He also noted the importance of having a one-on-one contest in order to win. "There is a need to co-operate and realise the importance of having a one-on-one contest," he said.
"All this while, Sabahan leaders have only gone through the process of changing the State Government. They need to realise that no concrete policy would be achieved by only changing the State Government," said Thamrin.
He said it is high time for Sabahans to see the importance of changing the Federal Government in order for Sabah to have a new deal from a new Federal Government.
Meanwhile, PKR Sabah Election Director, Datuk Kong Hong Ming, said: "We in PKR have been the prime mover of issues concerning RCI and NCR. We formulate policies and agendas that have been long outstanding and deprived of by the Barisan Nasional (BN)."
"The people of Sabah have given the BN 48 years to implement changes but what the BN has achieved is reducing Sabah from one of the richest states to the poorest State.
"The BN has failed the people of Sabah, which is why we ask the people of Sabah for their mandate to let the Pakatan Rakyat help them by forming the Government and to run the State.
"Give us five years. We would definitely want to see the State progress and we promise the people of Sabah progress," he said.
Also present were PKR Sabah Wanita Chief Lukia Indan, her Vice-Chief Saukina Yusoff and other committee members.
