Two embassy teams here to process Filipino papers

Kota Kinabalu: Two Philippine Embassy consular mobile teams have processed some 2,600 passport applications, issued 1,500 travel documents, 3,100 consular certifications and 120 Reports of Birth at temporary offices here and in Tawau since Jan. 9.Its Ambassador to Malaysia, J. Eduardo Malaya, urged Filipinos in Sabah to take advantage of the consular mobile services that aims to conduct consular outreach missions to palm oil plantations in the interior where many Filipinos are working."We would like to reach as many Filipinos as possible in Sabah and urge them to avail of the services of these two teams, notably those who need to have their passports renewed in order to regularise their status," he said.ADVERTISEMENT The teams would be based in Sabah for six months or until end of June. Last week, the four-person team in Tawau headed by Angelo Mabini visited Sawit Kinabalu Plantation in Semporna and the Pontian Fico Plantation in Lahad Datu, under the supervision of Consul General Rene P.O. Villa. The other four-person team based in Kota Kinabalu headed by Juancho Rillo is scheduled to conduct a consular outreach to Sandakan shortly.Malaya said the Embassy hoped Filipino community leaders, employers and recruitment agencies in Sabah would inform other Filipino workers of the two teams. ADVERTISEMENT He said that he and Villa, including AttachŽ Bernard Bonina, visited Kota Kinabalu and Tawau on Jan 31 and Feb 4 and met community leaders Marilou Chin and Lilibeth Lim, respectively. "This is probably the first time that a Philippine Ambassador came to Tawau to meet the community," said Lim who is also President of the Holy Trinity Filipino community in Tawau.

During his visit to Sabah, Malaya also called on Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman as well as Kota Kinabalu Archbishop John Lee.The consular team's office in Kota Kinabalu is at Block C, Lot No. 1-1, 1st Floor, Inanam Business Center.
