Kota Kinabalu: MP Hiew King Chew said the ongoing renovations to the kitchen area in the central market here has caused financial losses to food stall operators there."The second section at the north end is almost completed but has not yet opened for the food operators to return to do their business.
"The two-and-half-month closure had caused serious financial losses to them, according to some food stall operators," said Hiew.
Hiew and Sabah DAP Local Government and Housing Bureau Chief Edward Ewol Mujie went to inspect the food stalls and noted the practically completed renovation on this section.
"The cooking areas are cleaned up and the tiles replaced.
It looks like the people here can move back for business.
The only thing is that there are no new tables and chairs provided at the food stalls for the customers.
The old ones are not serviceable anymore and dangerous to sit on."
He said the first section that was renovated earlier is still having broken tables and chairs.
"The question is why City Hall cannot replace all the broken tables and chairs at one go as these are not expensive items."
Hiew said the stall operators here are requesting for the cupboards which they used to have, to be replaced with some new ones.
