Kota Marudu: The Opposition is very good at making promises as they need not make them come true for the people, said Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili.Calling the Opposition's promises "janji terang bulan" (promising the moon), the Kota Marudu MP said they had no record of credibility or capability to back their promises but were only good at criticising the Barisan Nasional while offering no solution to the rakyat's problems and needs."BN is a promise keeper and the opposition, on the contrary, are professional promise breakers," he said at an event to distribute BR1M (Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia) vouchers to recipients in Kota Marudu and Matunggong. ADVERTISEMENT Giving an example, Ongkili said that PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had promised to build concrete longhouses in Kg Tinangol in Matunggong when he campaigned in the area during the 1994 state election."When he saw the longhouses in Kg Tinangol, he described them as "reban ayam" (chicken coop) and promised to replace them. He said he would do this in 100 days."We did not get the new longhouse from him then and neither did we get it from him now," Ongkili said.He added that it was under BN and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's caring attitude for the rural people of Sabah and Sarawak that Kota Marudu would get 13 new longhouses with total cost of about RM15million to replace the dilapidated ones identified as needing urgent attention.ADVERTISEMENT "Fulfilling the needs of the needy people are the approach and priority of the BN leadership. You can see that through the various transformation programmes that are not only to stimulate the country's economic growth. The transformation programmes are also targeted at improving the people's livelihood.
