Thunderstorms on the move

According to a Meteorological Department spokesperson, the squall line is often seen during the Southwest Monsoon season along the coastal areas, which developed offshore in the night before sweeping landward in the morning.
Squall lines are used to describe a moving line of thunderstorm, which stretches hundreds of kilometres in length, and have a life span of several hours.
They can generate gusty winds and heavy rains, which are more intense and extensive than individual thunderstorms.
