Opposition will never unite: Upko

Kota Kinabalu: The opposition parties in Sabah can never get along particularly to strike one-on-one deals for them to face the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 13th General Election, said United Pasok Momogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) Treasurer-General Datuk Dr Marcus Makin Mojigoh. He said his view was not because of him being a BN representative but it was from an analytical perspective."The opposition parties can never get along but why should they?

As Star Sabah chief, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said it is a democratic world, you have no right to stop anybody to contest especially when some outsiders try to stop them from contesting. "Knowing very well Dr Jeffrey's dislike for non-Sabahan parties, I think he is going for all out for the 60 state seats. They may compromise for 10 to 12 parliamentary seats in the KDM area. "He aims nothing more than the Chief Minister post should an opposition take over the government," said Mojigoh when asked about the attempt by the opposition to have the one-on-one pact against the BN.Mojigoh who is Putatan MP said Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Yong Teck Lee was probably more open to other opposition parties but his condition is SAPP must be given two-third of the 60 state seats.

"SAPP wants parliamentary seats, may be less than 10 in Chinese and the mixed seat areas. To the supporters of the party, Yong is a better Chief Minister than Dr Jeffery," he said.Mojigoh believed DAP may also be eyeing between four and six parliamentary seats and six to eight state seats mainly the Chinese majority and mixed areas.

As for PAS, he said the party was only begging to be given a token of seats perhaps one or two by PKR in the Muslim majority constituencies that are strongholds of BN, which "will be very tough for them.""PKR is all out to destroy Dr Jeffrey and it appears that the party has no credible leader in Sabah right now ... a very disorganised lot but many of them inside are going all out to contest," he said."I doubt if PKR President Dr Wan Azizah could handle them because if she stops any of them, they will turn against her ... so I think it will be free-for-all again," he said.In this respect, Mojigoh said for BN, its track record of being a very organised party is proven. "BN is the government that has reached the people and touched their heart. The rakyat knows the BN has managed the country very well. "Look at the neighbouring countries ... how far they are behind us, economically, security wise and the harmony of its people as well as living standard. "In the late 1990s who caused the economic downturn of our country? His image had been tarnished so can we make him as the CEO of this nation?" he asked, adding that the elite group might not think so and similarly the fence sitters.
