Sabah down KL in 4-2 thriller

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah won a thriller at the Likas Stadium on Saturday when they beat Kuala Lumpur 4-2 in a Super League match. Sabah who were playing as an away match as their opponent who are without a home venue opted to play their home match here led 1-0 at half time.The goal was scored by young right back Razid Gafar in the 19th minutes after he headed home a corner kick delivered by Shahrudin Yaakup.Sabah started the match in an aggressive mood and Jufrey Omopor was a constant threat to the Kuala Lumpur defense with his menacing runs. ADVERTISEMENT In the 22nd minute, he almost doubled Sabah's lead when he turned and shot which was palmed away by the KL keeper. He had another chance in the 34th minutes to make amends but this time his shot at close range was denied by the cross bar. The second half saw Kuala Lumpur began well, especially with the introduction of their import player Mohd Afiq Azmi. However it was Sabah who made the first strike with a cross by Shahrudin that was deflected into goal to put his team two-up in the 53rd minute.With Sabah cruising for a comfortable win, their opponents was given a lifeline in the 73rd minute when they were given a soft penalty. Their other import player Zkaria Charara made no mistake with his spot kick sending Azizon Abd Kadir the wrong way. Sabah restored their two goal lead five minutes later when substitute Radzi Hussin unleashed a long-range shot that beat the KL keeper. The Kuala Lumpur team refused to concede defeat as they managed to pull one back with a neat header from Mohd Afiq Azmi after a Zakaria delivered a cross from a corner taken short in the 82 minutes. Sabah's substitute Leopold lfonso Awho replaced Jufrey in the 70th minutes had the last say on the game when he struck a screamer from 20m out giving the KL keeper no chance to maintain Sabah two goal lead until the final whistle.ADVERTISEMENT It was the biggest win for Sabah this season and it came at the right time as it should give the players the much needed confidence ahead of their four remaining matches.
