Kota Kinabalu: There are now RM112.8 billion worth of investments planned and committed in Sabah ever since the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) was launched in January 2008, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.Speaking at the 10th Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority meeting at Wisma Sedia, Thursday, he said it was undeniable that the SDC, which runs on the State Government Halatuju Agenda, has stimulated the investment climate for Sabah.

"Several huge investments from both domestic and overseas such as in the oil and natural gas industry, oil palm, fisheries, livestock breeding and tourism are now located in Sabah," he said.

He said flagship projects such as the POIC Lahad Datu and Sandakan, Keningau Integrated Livestock Centre, Sandakan Education Hub, Sabah Agro-Industrial Park, Oil and Natural Gas Cluster, Marine Industry Cluster, Kinabalu Gold Coast Enclave and agropolitan projects are already in their implementation phase.

He said several infrastructure projects also have been successfully completed.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched the Kemabong Agropolitan and the Tongod Agropolitan by Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, last year.

This year alone, Najib, he said, also launched the Sabah Ammonia-Urea Complex (Samur) project in Sipitang on Feb 16 and the Keningau Integrated Livestock Centre and Sabah Handicraft Centre in June 16.

Musa said he also had the opportunity to launch the Sembulan Riverpark, another of the various SDC projects, just last month.

The SDC projects, he said, have been streamlined with that of the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) and Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) through the Corridor's and Bandar Utama initiatives.

"I am very happy that the governance structure for the implementation of the Corridor and Bandar Utama initiatives is fully operational," he said.

The committee has already been appointed, he said, and that at the first meeting of the SDC committee conducted on Apr 27 Minister in the Prime Minister's Department cum Pemandu Chief Executive, Datuk Seri Idris Jala, was present.

The State Government and the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (Sedia), he said, were also instrumental in helping to commence public-private partnership programmes under the supervision of the Public-Private Partnership Unit (UKAS).

So far, he said, the Tawau Green Energy, project owner of the geothermal power plant and three EPP project holders namely Sipadan Mangrove Resort, Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) and International Technology and Convention Centre (ITCC) has signed the easy funding agreement with UKAS and Bank Pembangunan Malaysia.

He said the Federal Government has approved RM353.93 million of the total RM459.2 million so far for the four projects.

Musa said Sedia has also signed the Heads of Agreement (HoA) with Annam Corporation, a subsidiary of Brunei Investment Agency, on June 16 in conjunction with the ground-breaking ceremony of the SDC Keningau Integrated Livestock Centre.

The Jejak Teraju programme that was launched on June 5, he said, is aimed at enhancing bumiputera entrepreneurs' participation in SDC projects.

"Teraju has set up a secretariat at TERAJU@Koridor for SDC at Sedia's office to facilitate entrepreneurs interested to obtain advisory services on how to utilise the easy funding worth RM100 million for bumiputera entrepreneurs in Sabah," he said.

He said Sedia has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the SME Bank on May 20 to assist small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that are involved in economic activities in SDC gain access to loan facilities.

He said Sedia has also created a one-stop-information centre named SDC Information Centre at its office.

All these initiatives, he said, are to ensure all levels of the socio-economy enjoy the benefit of development in Sabah just as the government promises that "no one is left behind".

Musa in his capacity as Sedia Chairman, also congratulated Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa on the latter's appointment as the new Chief Secretary to the Government.
