Ministry committed to quality health grads

Sandakan: The Ministry of Health has always taken the welfare of all members of the health sciences into account to ensure they can do their jobs well and are dedicated to their service.Deputy Health Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said the ministry has prepared training institutions equipped with modern facilities with qualified teaching staff and is committed to ensuring that graduates have the knowledge and skills required.

"If we see the development of global health at present, the world needs specialists to develop public health," she said at the Training Institute Ministry of Health Malaysia Zone Sabah 2012 convocation ceremony at Hakka Hall, Batu 6, here, Saturday.

"Therefore, it is hoped that graduates are also prepared to work hard to increase the knowledge and skills in the areas of health and are able to compete internationally and further develop the health service to the community at large," she added. Her speech was delivered by the Ministry's Secretary of the Training Management Division, Datuk Abu Bakar Othman.

"I sincerely hope that intelligent graduates take advantage of knowledge obtained," she said.

Earlier, the State Health Director, Dr Mohd Yusof Ibrahim, said the creation of more public health team members in the State that is needed now to meet the health manpower needs is something to be proud of.

In his speech read by Deputy State Health Director (Management), Toisin Gantor, he said it is hoped that graduates will continue the excellent work culture and the good name of the Ministry and the Department.

"Use the knowledge learned in the institution to work with full dedication and ethically," he said.

The Sabah Zone Training Institute Convocation was this time held in Sandakan Nursing College which also serves as the Executive Committee along with College of Allied Health Sciences Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.

A total of 839 graduates from a combination of three training institutions in Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia received their awards.

Of the total, 530 graduates received their Diploma, 224 graduates received Certificates, while 85 graduates received Advanced Diplomas.

Among graduates who topped the list of recipients for Outstanding Academic Achievement Award in Nursing Diploma is Andi Julaiha Andi Hamid from the Sandakan Nursing College class of January 2009 and Carolyn Supideh of the Allied Health Sciences College of Kota Kinabalu cass of July 2009.
