Kota Kinabalu: A police personnel from the Menggatal police station shot and wounded a man who threatened to attack his colleague with a machete on Thursday night.

City Police Chief ACP Jauteh Dikun said the 26-year-old man was hit on the shoulder in the 9pm roadside incident at Mile 10 along Tuaran road.

"Two Lance Corporals were on their beat patrol when they came across four men behaving suspiciously at the scene.

"Upon approaching them, one of the policemen got off his motorcycle to check on them.

However, three ran from the police but one of them threatened to attack him with a one-foot parang.

"The jobless suspect kept flailing the parang at the policeman who avoided it and almost fell into a bush," he said in a press conference here, Friday.

Upon seeing what was going on, Jauteh said the other policeman fired one shot at the suspect, which stopped him in his tracks.

Jauteh said the suspect who had no documents on him was rushed to the hospital and given outpatient treatment.

Subsequently, he said the suspect was arrested under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempting to kill a policeman to evade arrest.
