Kota Kinabalu: SK Likas reigned supreme in the just concluded 2012 Borneo Cup U-13 championship when they edged Jerudong International School from Brunei 1-0 in the final held at the UMS stadium on Saturday.
With defending champion TABS surprise exit in the semi-final stage, the job was left for SK Likas to ensure the title remains here in Sabah and they did it with a first half goal through Mohd Nasip Mohd Zain in the 16th minute to claim the title.
The two finalists had earlier met in the group matches on day one where SK Likas had a much easier game by winning the match 2-0.
In the 3rd/4th place play-off, TABS failed to recover from their upset loss on Friday as St George FA from Australia who had earlier lost 0-2 in the group stage to them turned the tables this time round with a 2-1 extra time victory.
TABS's Jordan Ollerenshaw equaliser in the 30th minute to cancel out the Australians opening in the 10th minute from a Brooklyn Bataraud strike proved futile as a penalty kick converted by Jordan Swibel in the second extra time brought cheers to the visitors.
Fifth place went to KidBall who beat Yayasan Sarawak Academy 4-0 in the play-off while The Blues from Kuala Lumpur blasted 10 goals past the hapless UMS boys to take the seventh spot.
