Marudu girl's death: Pakistani is held

Kota Kinabalu: A Pakistani was arrested to facilitate investigation into the death of a 16-year-old local girl who was found by a roadside in Kg Ranau, in Kota Marudu, Sunday.The suspect, in his 40s, was arrested at 10am at the Goshen Township in Kota Marudu on Tuesday by a police team led by Investigating Officer Insp. Pirikson Ubak from the Kota Marudu police station.The man believed to be a furniture trader is said to be married to a local. ADVERTISEMENT It was reported on Monday that the body of Norikoh Saliwa, from Kg Bombong 1, was found about 2km from Kota Marudu town at about 12.40pm. According to Acting District Police Chief, ASP Kamarudin Sulaiman, the girl who had a head injury was found by passers-by who alerted police, adding that investigations are still being conducted to determine the actual cause of death. Meanwhile, District Police Chief DSP Mohd Isa Yusof when contacted urged the public not to listen to rumours spread on the Internet particularly that surrounding the case. "There are many speculations and assumptions posted on the social network but my advice is not to listen to such rumours as investigations are still being done," he said. ADVERTISEMENT On a social website there have been speculations that Norkiah was thrown off a lorry after she was sexually attacked by five foreigners in Kota Marudu on Sunday. There have been several cases of deaths involving young women under mysterious circumstances over the years, including at least three this year.
