Awang Damit Amat, 54, also thanked the Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Afdal for his concern towards assisting the people in getting a house through the implementation of the Housing for the Hardcore Poor Programme (PPRT).
"A huge number of victims are now living in the PPRT homes which has given its occupants comfort and added to their confidence in Barisan Nasional," he said here on Monday.
"The government had proved that their commitment in helping the people would not stop just like that and this commitment is what allows the people particularly those in need of assistance to also enjoy the development brought in by the government," he said, adding that apart from fulfilling the promises made during the last election, it is also clear that the government is sincere in helping the people.
He said even though the housing assistance was given in stages to all the fire victims, it still showed that the government does not make empty promises when they built PPRT houses which eventually became a reality.
A total of 62 houses were destroyed in a fire which hit their village in 2002 and some 30 fire victims including Awang have been relocated to their PPRT homes a year ago.
Awang said, it was understood, ten more PPRT houses would be built with the balance to be built after that.
"Villagers, particularly voters in the Karamunting area must continue to support the government which I believe would bring more development as well as continuous commitment to assist the people through various development planning," he said.
"I also see that there is no other party apart from Barisan Nasional which is capable of bringing changes in terms of development and political stability particularly as this country heads towards a developed country by 2020," he added.
Meanwhile, Batu Sapi Umno Youth former Works Secretary, Abdul Raman Amat also expressed his gratitude to the government and Shafie for implementing the PPRT construction in the village.
"Through the construction of this PPRT homes, fire victims are now able to live in a comfortable house," he said, adding that it would add confidence to the people to continue supporting Barisan Nasional which has proved that they kept their promises apart from making various efforts for future development.
