Man slashed in robbery attempt in stable condition

Kota Kinabalu: A young man who managed to crawl out of his vehicle after being slashed in an attempted robbery near a bank in Inanam here Sunday night is reported to be in stable condition. According to the victim's aunt, who did not want to be named, her 26-year-old nephew had wanted to withdraw cash and decided to go alone to a bank in Inanam at 10.45pm. She said he made a withdrawal and immediately went to his car parked near the bank and had just got into the driver's seat when a man suddenly opened the door and held a knife to his neck while demanding for money.

"My nephew started to put up a fight, which resulted in him being slashed in the chest, neck and arms by the robber," she said, adding that the robber fled the scene empty-handed leaving her injured nephew lying in his blood. She said her nephew managed to crawl onto the pavement a few feet away before passing out and several minutes later passersby alerted the authorities.She he is being treated in a hospital and reported to be in stable condition. City Police Chief ACP Jauteh Dikun said police are on the lookout for the suspect, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons.

He advised people to be wary of their surroundings at all times and to take safety precautions such as immediately locking their doors the moment they enter their vehicles.
