Three members of a family killed in Lahad Datu crash

Lahad Datu: Three members of a family, including a three-year-old, were killed when the lorry they were in skidded and crashed into a palm tree at Km 24 of Lahad Datu-Jeroco road, here, Wednesday.

District acting police chief, ASP Bong Khuet Khiun, said the victims were identified as Jusmin, 44, his wife, Paima Abdul Hamid, 22, and their three-year-old daughter whose identity is yet to be known.

According to Bong, the family was heading to Lahad Datu from a plantation in Jeroco to transport palm fruits before the 4pm incident.

"Preliminary police investigation revealed that the driver lost control of his wheel when manoeuvring a downhill corner before the lorry crashed into the palm tree. All the victims succumbed to severe injuries at the scene.

"Police were assisted by district Fire and Rescue Department personnel to free all the victims who were trapped inside the lorry," said Bong.

The victims' bodies have sent to the Lahad Datu hospital for post mortem.

The case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.
