Kuala Lumpur: The Prime Minister's Office has dismissed a rumour that the Dewan Rakyat was dissolved Wednesday to pave the way for the 13th General Election.
That information is not true at all, said the Twitter account of the Prime Minister's Press Office.
"The statement on the dissolution of Parliament on Wednesday, apparently emerging from the Prime Minister's Office, is false," the Twitter account reported at 1.23pm.
The matter was confirmed by a media officer of the Prime Minister.
"No dissolution today," the officer said.
The news, quoting a statement apparently issued by the Prime Minister, circulated on the social websites at about 12.30pm after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was seen coming out of the Istana Negara Wednesday morning.
Najib was seen entering the Istana Negara at 7.55am and leaving about an hour later.
It is customary for the Prime Minister to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong before he chairs the weekly meeting of the Cabinet, which is now held on Wednesdays.
