Labuan: An eight-year-old tried desperately to save his mother by cutting the rope she used to hang herself before running to the next door neighbor - but it was in vain as she still died.

OCPD Supt Adzhar Othman said police ruled out foul play as the 31-year-old housewife was alone with her son and four-year-old daughter in the house at Kg Merinding. The husband was away at work at the ferry terminal at the time of the incident.

Before she entered the bedroom, she asked her two children to play at the living room.

The son suspected something amiss when he heard shrieks from the bedroom where he found her hanging from the ceiling.

He used a chair to snap the rope.

Police received a call at 7.25pm, Tuesday but she was pronounced dead by the paramedics.

According to the police report, statement from the neighbor did not indicate family quarrel.

The husband was too shocked as she had shown no tendency of suicide.

Her body was sent to Sipitang for burial at 10.30, Wednesday morning.
