Kota Kinabalu: Forty-one luxury cars worth RM4 million will be sent back to Brunei after they were stolen and smuggled into the State in 2011.Deputy State Police Commissioner, SAC II Datuk Tan Kok Liang, on Tuesday said police here sprung into action after receiving reports and a request for assistance from their Brunei counterparts.
"Seven arrests involving six locals and one Brunei citizen were made after a three-month surveillance since October the same year," he said, adding that the case took time as it required scrutiny before it could be fully resolved.
The arrests, he said, led to the discovery of the stolen cars which were found to have falsified road tax used to dupe people in the State to buy them.
He said the car owners in Brunei have made claims to the insurance company in Brunei and that police there came to Sabah to accept the cars on their behalf.
Meanwhile, Brunei Crime Investigation Department Director, SAC Pengiran Wahab Pengiran Omar, said no arrests were made following the case and that all the cars will be brought to Tempurung before being handed to the respective owners.
