Lahad Datu: A 48-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death with a machete (parang) by his wife and brother in-law while asleep on Saturday. Both have since gone missing.District Police Chief Supt Shamsudin Mat said Saidy Gira was found dead by his colleague inside his house at Ladang Abib Emas quarters about 4pm that day.
Shamsudin said police were alerted by the man's neighbour and found the victim's body on his bedroom floor with a slash wound on his throat.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had quarreled with his wife and brother-in-law earlier. However, the motive of the quarrel is still unclear.
"We also found a machete with bloodstains in the kitchen," he said, adding police are now looking for the victim's wife and her brother.
Meanwhile, a highly decomposed body was found floating in the river at Sabah Mas, Segama, about 10pm on Saturday.
Shamsudin said the gender could not be determined and the body was found with no hands, feet tied and head wrapped with plastic. "We believe the person was killed about four or five days earlier. Those who have lost a family member or have any information on this case are urged to contact the police," he said.
Shamsudin said both cases have been classified as murder and investigations are still ongoing under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
