Kota Kinabalu: DAP Sabah Chairman, Jimmy Wong urged the State Government to give free water to the people. "Why are BN leaders boasting and flaunting their RM 4 billion budget, claiming it to be the highest in Malaysia, when they can't even provide free water to the rakyat?
"Selangor's budget is only RM 1.6 billion but they are capable of giving its residents free water (RM11 per household)," said Jimmy, who is also Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament.
"In Sabah, we should be given free water of RM18 per household as it has the highest poverty rate of about 20 per cent. What's the use of a big budget if they can't help the rakyat", he said.
He also said the State Government needs to improve on the quality and volume of water supply in Sabah.
Meanwhile, DAP's Assemblyman for Likas, Junz Wong, said the government should give development allocations to opposition elected representatives also.
Junz also urged Federal Urban, Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, to fulfil its promises of building more affordable homes in Sabah.
"The main objective of the Sabah Housing and Town Development Authority (LPPB) was supposed to build affordable homes in the State but Instead they are doing joint ventures with private developers to build commercial lots using government land with very low premium," he said.
He claimed that LPPB had entered into a joint venture to build commercial lots soon along Jalan Inanam Laut.
"Is this is true, then how is BN going to fulfil its manifesto of building more affordable homes here?"
DAP's Kepayan Assemblyman, Dr Edwin Bosi, said BN leaders should not blame the opposition for not bringing development to Sabah.
"It's the government's job to do that. They are the ruling government.
They are the ones who have the money to develop Sabah. We will be the ones who will remind them as well as present the rakyat's problems to them and make sure they do their jobs.
"I'm sure the rakyat want to see the coastal road from Kudat to Kuching materialise.
We are going to remind them on this."
Apart from that, he also assured the people that DAP elected representatives will continue to keep an eye on issues related to the environment, including fish bombing.
Meanwhile, Sabah DAP will be organising a thanksgiving dinner at Grand Port View on May 22 at 6.30pm.
DAP Advisor, Lim Kit Siang, is expected to grace the event where some 1,000 people are expected to attend.
The event is open to the public on first come, first serve basis.
