Putra Jaya: Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin and his deputy Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah have vowed to carry on the legacy of the ministry's previous leadership. Ewon, who is a law graduate from Universiti Malaya and has been an Assistant Minister and Minister in the Sabah Cabinet, described his new federal ministerial responsibility as a challenge.
"This is a new task. But I am confident that we can do well with the help of the experienced staff in the ministry and its agencies and the Deputy Minister (Abu Bakar), who is experienced in the field of innovation.
"We will continue what had been implemented by the former Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili and his deputy Datuk Fadillah Yusof," he said at a press conference after the handing-over of duties at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti), here, Monday.
Also present were Ongkili, who is now Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister, Fadillah, who is Works Minister, and Mosti's Secretary-General Datuk Dr Madinah Mohamad.
Abu Bakar, who was Research and Innovation Development Division Chief Executive Officer in the Melaka Chief Minister's Department, said he would use his experience there to further develop Malaysia in the field.
Meanwhile, Ongkili described Ewon as "an experienced decision maker and a fast learner" and expressed confidence that his successor would discharge his duties well and propel the ministry to greater heights.
"We have done extremely well and achieved the Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
So, I urge everyone concerned to continue giving your support to the new Minister," he said.
