Melaka: Melaka and Indonesia have proposed to introduce a new gateway for Indonesian workers to travel and work in Melaka, especially industries located in coastal areas, on a daily basis.Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Idris Haron said through the new initiative Indonesian workers living in Dumai, Bengkalis and Pulau Rupat would be able to travel to and from Melaka on a daily basis under the supervision of the Malaysian Immigration Department.

"The new proposal is to assist Indonesian workers to fill job opportunities in the coastal areas of Melaka.

They can work and return home just like Malaysians working in Singapore," he told reporters after meeting Indonesia's Ambassador to Malaysia Herman Prayitno at his office in Seri Negeri, here, Monday.

He added that Indonesian workers under the proposed initiative would use the sea route for their travel and would return to their country immediately after their fixed working hours. - Bernama
