Lahad Datu: Two families who lost their homes in an afternoon fire in Kampung Wawasan, Akawali, here, last Wednesday received assistance from newly-elected Assemblyman, Datuk Mohd Yusuf Apdal, on Sunday. The assistance from the district Welfare Department as well as Yusuf's Assemblyman Fund was handed to the fire victims when he visited them, accompanied by officers from the district Welfare Department.

"I hope this sincere assistance from the Barisan Nasional government will help ease their (fire victims) burden," he said.

In the fire incident, not only the double-storey wooden house occupied by two families was razed to the ground but it also saw a car and a motorcycle going up in smoke.

According to one of the fire victims, Mohd Khairi, 34, there was nothing they could do to salvage their belongings, as the fire spread too fast.
