Tawau: The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Tawau Zone received eight new assets, including two utility vehicles, to assist in the mission of turning the department into a high-performance organisation.Tawau Zone Fire Chief, Ismaidi Ismail, said they received eight units of new machinery distributed one each to Tawau, Semporna, Kunak and Lahad Datu.
Meanwhile, two units each will be submitted to the Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS) Felda Umas (Tawau) and Ancient (Lahad Datu) during the State PBS convention in June.
"Two utility vehicles, of the type Double Cab DMAX, had been submitted to Semporna and Lahad Datu during the celebration of the State-level World Firefighters Day on May 14 last year," he said.
He said this to reporters during the celebration of the World Firefighters Day Tawau JBPM, here, Wednesday.
Also present were Tawau Zone Deputy Fire Chief, Albert Jiran Tanjong, and Tawau Fire Chief, Rudy Fredzex.
Ismaidi also revealed that they had already identified six areas in the district to establish Volunteer Fire Department - BBB (Category D), which are Balung, Tass Andrassy, Merotai, Umas, Kalabakan and Pulau Sebatik.
He said they are targeting to set up the BBB as soon as possible this year as an initiative to provide adequate fire protection, particularly in rural areas far from the fire station.
However, he stated that the creation of the BBB in the identified areas rely heavily on the decision of JBPM Headquarters.
The World Tawau Firefighters Day celebrations 2013 saw a parade, a message by the JBPM Director-General read by Ismaili, as well as the officiation of the BBP Tawau new machinery, BLY 1581.
