Kuala Lumpur: National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) former director Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail (pic) told the Sessions Court Wednesday that he had verbally agreed to pay businessman Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail RM2.75 million for a year's worth of advisory and consulting services. Responding to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecution chief, Datuk Abdul Razak Musa's examination-in-chief, Mohamad Salleh, 65, said he engaged Shamsubahrin to restore the good name of his company and family which had taken a beating from the opposition regarding the NFC.

The 42nd prosecution witness said Shamsubahrin told him that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had asked him to help handle the situation at the time.

Mohamad Salleh said there were no results despite paying RM1.75 million to the accused which made him reluctant to pay the balance.

He was testifying at the trial of Shamsubahrin, who is facing 17 counts of money laundering, amounting to RM1.755 million, under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001.

Shamsubahrin, 46, is also facing five charges under the Penal Code, of cheating former National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) Chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh Ismail into agreeing to pay him (Shamsubahrin) a fee for the same sum last year, in return for advisory and consulting services.

Earlier in the hearing, former Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, 56, who is Mohamad Salleh's wife, said she was suspicious about the accused using Tun Dr Mahathir's name to help her husband. - Bernama
