Sabah (APS) stressed that the online birth registration system be studied in detail before it is being implemented.Keningau APS Coordinator, Paul Kadau said the proposal made by Deputy Home Minister, Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar concerning the online birth registration system should be reviewed and discussed in Parliament and the State Assembly before being implemented.
"Basically, APS believe that in the effort to implement this initiative, there is no guarantee that this system would not be misused by individuals, especially illegal immigrants (PTI), which already have MyKads.
"The Deputy Minister should also be aware that not all villages have internet connections where the population are able to access the online applications programmes," he said.
According to Kadau, APS thinks it would be better if the government create registration centres at the required places like in Pensiangan, Sepulut and others remote areas.
"If the Government were willing to create the 1Malaysia clinics in urban areas or towns which benefits mostly PTI patients, then there is no reason why the government cannot establish facilities like the registration centres elsewhere.
"The problem of street children is due to their parents being PTI and do not have valid documents before the 'Project IC', so that is why street children have no birth certificates," he said.
Kadau added that in his own village, there have never been a single child of local residents who do not have a birth certificate because all parents are the genuine people of Sabah.
