2 Labuan MACC officers, kid killed
Labuan: Two MACC (Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission) officers and a two-year-old boy were killed in an accident near the airport traffic light junction at 11.25pm, Tuesday.ASP Mohd Hafeez Buazi and Herman Ahat were in the Toyota GT driven by the latter.

Their car slammed into a Kancil from behind ending up in both vehicles being very badly damaged.

Hafeez and Herman died on the spot from head injuries, while Khairul Muhamin bin Khairul Amir, who was in the Kancil, was rushed to hospital. However, doctors could not save him.

The boy was looked after by his grandmother from Kg Lajau as his father serves in the naval base in Sepanggar and mother is a community nurse in Kuala Penyu.

He was travelling with his aunt, Nuratiqah Tamin, 20, in the Kancil driven by her fiancŽ Nosabindra Salleh, 22, of Tg Aru. The two suffered injuries in the hands and legs.

The Toyota and Kancil were heading in the same direction. It was believed that the former was speeding. The crash caused the cars to spin and turn turtle before hitting a tree and a lamppost.

Hafeez and Herman were both off duty and on their way to meet some friends in town then.

Labuan MACC Director Hasbillah Mohd Salleh said his two officers were highly dedicated and committed in their jobs.

The tragedy is a great loss to the commission, he said when met at the mortuary, Wednesday.

The body of Hafeez, 31, was flown back to his hometown in Kuantan, Wednesday at 3pm. He is still a bachelor and had been with MACC Labuan since 2009, while local-born Herman, 33, left behind a wife and two kids.

Meanwhile, OCPD Supt Adzhar Othman advised motorists not to speed over the limit and not to drive if they were tired.

The accident was investigated under section 4 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 by Insp. Ezwan Othman for causing death due to reckless driving.
