Papar: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Pantai Manis division here has reiterated its call for a new State constituency to be created in the coming re-delineation exercise. Its chief Datuk Johnny Mositun believed such a proposal mooted by the division is feasible and practical so that some areas that need to be developed can be done.

"In May, the Election Commission had announced that it will carry out a study on proposals for re-delineation in the country and they will collect data for the exercise within these two years.

"Hence, I am repeating the party's call for a new Adun area in Papar to be created starting from Limbahau up to Ulu Kimanis area, including the Kinarut border area," he said.

Mositun, who is also PBS Information Chief, disclosed this to reporters during Unity Kaamatan Festival at district level held at a multipurpose hall of Mositun Sungkadon-Novoung, here, Sunday.

He was commenting on queries of local residents here on the chances of a new Adun area to be created in the district.

State Rural Development Minister Datuk Radin Malleh officiated at the annual event organised by KDCA members. About 50 children of Kota Kinabalu Children's Home were given "angpows".

Also present were State Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Tan Kok Liang, former Chief Minister Datuk Osu Sukam, former Inanam Assemblyman cum PBS Supreme Council Member Datuk Johnny Goh, former State AG Tan Sri Herman Luping, Papar District Officer Iman Ali and other officials.

Mositun, who is also Deputy Speaker of State Legislative Assembly, said there is a need to create another Adun area for better focus in providing physical developments as well as making development plans.

He said the party will officially submit the proposal to the EC to be considered. A re-delineation exercise is normally carried out every 10 years with Parliament approval.

On whether a new parliamentary area should also be created, Mositun said he would leave it for the EC to decide.

On May 28, this year, a national portal reported EC Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Abdul Yusof saying that the EC will study any proposal very carefully guided by the existing laws and the Federal Constitution.

"We have to analyse the situation properly and need time to study the proposals with reference to Schedule 13 of the Federal Constitution," he said,

Earlier, Radin who is also PBS Vice-President, said the annual Harvest Festival in Sabah is unique as it could be an effective tool to unite and foster closer ties among the local communities.

Apart from showing the identity of Sabah community, he said the festivity can be capitalised to promote the local tradition, culture and food to the foreign visitors.

"Without us realising it, the Harvest Festival gathers families, relatives and friends as well as promote the event to tourists who can join us celebrating with enjoyment and happiness.

"Many foreign tourists would visit Sabah as the dates for the festivity at the end of May is listed in the Malaysia's tourism calendar," he said.

Radin said Sabah has been practising the 1Malaysia concept even before Sabah achieved independence.

He said various communities and races can sit down together in a table without feeling any apprehension with each other.
