Kota Kinabalu: Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor and State Tourism, Environment and Culture Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun head the list of 823 recipients conferred state awards in conjunction with the 60th birthday of the Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin on Saturday.
Both were conferred Sabah's highest award, the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK) that carries the title Datuk Seri Panglima.
Also conferred the SPDK were Armed Forces Chief General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, immediate former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar and Executive Chairman of YTL, Tan Sri Dr Yeoh Tiong Lay.
This year 36 people were conferred the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK) award that carries the title Datuk.
Among those who received the PGDK were Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, Batu Sapi MP Datin Linda Tsen, Upko Tenom Chief, Senator Dr Lucas Umbul, Sindumin Assemblyman Haji Ahmad Bujang, Sebatik Assemblyman Abdul Muis Picho and Elopura Assemblyman Au Kam Wah.
Also receiving the PGDK were Education Department Director Jame Alip, Fisheries Department Director Rayner Stuel Galid, Youth and Sports Department (Federal) Director Mohd Dahali Matsin as well as from the business sector including BTC Group Chief Executive Officer, Haji Abdul Kadir M.E Sikkandar and Kota Kinabalu Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Micheal Lui Yen Sang, Sawit Kinabalu Group Managing Director Othman Walat, Sabah's first woman lawyer-cum-first woman State Attorney General, Li Yun Ken, 91 was also conferred the PGDK.
The rest of the PGDK recipients were Abdul Shukur Haji Idrus, Abd Razak Datuk Hj Walli, Abdul Hajan Gurimbing, Ajmain Abdul Jalil (posthumous), Alex Sham Ching Nam, Bentota Hiewagei George, Gan Khian Seng, Halima Nawab Khan, Hong Kim Fah, Jaafar Uttong, Lai Siew Wah, Mazlan Zakaria, Naim Ahmad, Nerawi Lampong, Patrick Jilan, Raksan Matasil, Robert James @ Prins Robert James, Stephen Sondoh, Suzain Datuk Haji Suhaimi, Vincent Michael Fernandez, Wong Chung Teck @ George Wong, Zain @ Mohd Zain Haji Said and Zainie Abdul Aucasa.
Nine people were conferred with the Justice of Peace (JP) led by State Industrial Development Minister Datuk Raymond Tan together with State Deputy Speaker, Datuk Johnny Mositun, Sabah MIC Chief Datuk V Jothi, Dato' Sulaiman Ibrahim, Datuk Mohd Ainal Fattah, Datuk Yong Teck Shing, Datuk Yusuf Hamdain Diego, Jonathan Lo Chaw Loong and Shahelmy Yahya.
Also conferred with State awards were several journalists led by Acting President of Sabah Journalists Association, Francis Fahir who was conferred the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK).
The other journalists were from Daily Express, Kan Yaw Chong and Chris Maskilone, Roy Goh of New Straits Times, Sandra Sokial from Borneo Post and RTM Chong Ken Yin. They received the Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK).
The State Government also honoured the security personnel who were killed in the Tanduo and Semporna incursion by conferring posthumous award namely the late ACP Ibrahim Lebar and DSP Michael Padel, who were given ASDK.
Abd Aziz Sarikon (SM), Ahmad Farhan Ruslan (Corp), Ahmad Hurairah Ismail (Corp), Baharin Hamid (SM), Mohd Azrul Tukiran (Corp), Sabaruddin Daud (Sgt), Salam Togiran (Sgt) and Zulkifli Mamat (ASP) received the ADK.
