A school block of SMK Kunak was affected when its roof was blown off by the strong wind.
A teacher known only as Asmahudi, who lives nearby, related the incident which happened at about 4.50pm.
"I was at home when I heard sounds of things falling outside," he said.
SMK Kunak Principal Thangavellu Supramanian, Kunak Parent Teachers Association Chairman Hussien Ibnu Hassan, together with personnel from the district Fire and Rescue Department, were at the site to inspect the damages.
Thangavellu said the school will hold a special meeting to discuss the estimated loss and how to repair the damage.
He said a total of 238 students sat for their Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) as usual.
"Two classrooms which were initially the venue for the PMR exam had to be relocated to another classroom due to the damages," he said.
Meanwhile, SK Kg Selamat Headmaster Nulhakim Saman said some parts of their school were damaged, particularly the Student Affairs teachers room and discipline teachers room, including the Primary Three classrooms.
Nulhakim said classes resumed as normal on Monday.
"An overall inspection showed that the six classrooms including a pre-school classroom were damaged in the incident," he said.
A total of 10 houses in Kg Getah, which is close to the area, were also damaged. However, no casualty was reported.
