Passport approvals day and night

Kota Kinabalu: Passport applications can now be done at the Kota Kinabalu Immigration Office's Urban Transformation Centre (the former Agriculture Ministry premises in the city) from 8.30am to 10pm, Mondays to Sundays, beginning Dec. 16. Those wanting to apply for passports may do so at the Urban Transformation Centre as the Immigration Office at the Federal Government Office Block B would be closed on Saturdays and Sundays, said Sabah Immigration Department Director Noor Alam Khan.He also said efforts to curb illegal immigrants without valid and genuine documents are part of their focus. ADVERTISEMENT Those with valid and genuine documents, which include census and temporary receipts, will not be arrested until further orders from the Government.Meanwhile, 84 illegal immigrants were detained during a 5P Integrated Ops conducted by the Sandakan Immigration Department in Sandakan on Friday. The operation, which was conducted in two locations in Sandakan, involved 11 Immigration personnel and about 30 People Volunteer's Corp (Rela) personnel.Noor Alam said the main focus of the integrated operation was to detain individuals without documents or those found to have fake documents.ADVERTISEMENT The first raid was conducted at a construction site in Batu 8 Sandakan from 8.20am to 12pm where a total of 115 people were inspected resulting in the arrest of 68 illegal immigrants. "The second raid was at a wood processing factory in Jalan Baru Sapi conducted from 3.20pm to 7.45pm where a total of 206 people were inspected, resulting in the detention of a total of 16 illegal immigrants.

"The number of illegal immigrants arrested were 84 people, comprising 81 Filipino nationals and three Indonesian nationals," he added.
