Mohd Said Maskor was with his family members, including his 50-year-old father Maskor Mahimd, to attend a wedding banquet when the incident occurred at 10.30am.
The suspect, who is from the narcotic unit in Negri Sembilan, drove off the car after the driver and several others alighted from the vehicle.
The car was spotted some 200 meters from the Ulu Dusun police station at Mile 30 where the suspect was apprehended at noon, Monday.
Mohd Said, who is the fifth among six children, was found inside the car in a healthy condition along with a laptop and RM8,000 in the driver seat.
District Police Chief, ACP Rowell Marong said the suspect was detained to facilitate nvestigations. Earlier, the boy was left in the Toyota Vigo by his 34-year-old brother-in-law with the engine still running.
He went up to his house to take a few items but upon returning, the car was missing. He immediately sought help from neighbours to look for the vehicle belonging to a plantation company that he works for.
After failing to find the vehicle, the plantation supervisor lodged police report on the same day (Sunday).
Kunak District Police Chief, DSP M.Radzali Mahmud said police identified the suspect as a 33-year-old man and the case is being investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping and Section 379A of the Penal Code for stealing the vehicle.
