The price of tailgating

Published on: Thursday, December 19, 2013

Kota Kinabalu: Seven vehicles, including two new ones - a Toyota Hilux and Toyota Vios - were involved in this accident along the Lintas-Kepayan road when the Hilux emerged from a junction at Open University Malaysia and collided with a two and a half tonne truck at 2pm, Wednesday.

The collision due to tailgating or driving too close caused the truck to ram the rear of a TZ Prado and the latter hit the rear of a Proton Saga, D-max Isuzu, Toyota Avanza and Toyota Vios.

A 58-year-old man who drove the Vios had just bought the vehicle two weeks ago while the 47-year-old man in the Hilux bought the 4WD barely six months ago.

All the drivers were unhurt. There have been complaints that the traffic light near the U-turn there is often inactive, forcing those turning into the road that leads to the airport to often take a risk when turning.
