Sandakan: The marine police have detained 11 Filipinas during "Ops Cantas Khas" to facilitate investigations into illegal entry into the country.

The suspects were picked up about 4pm from a house-on-stilts built over water at Kampung Sundang Laut in Batu Sapi, here, Friday.

According to marine police (Region 4) commander ACP Mohamad Madun, the women, aged between 21 and 35, had slipped into the country in search of jobs without valid visit pass. "The women were suspected of sneaking into the district by sea and then entering through a gazetted entry point," he said in a statement here Saturday.

He said the police had also detained the house owner, a 57-year-old local man who was suspected of providing shelter to the illegal immigrants.

Mohamad urged those with information on crimes at sea, rivers or coastal areas to contact the marine police office at 089-221423/221424/221453.
