Published on: Thursday, January 02, 2014

Tenom: A couple was killed on New Year's eve when the Kancil they were travelling in crashed into a 10-tonne lorry, here.

Ramli Ansibok, 35, and his wife, Mastura Lambatus, 25, from Kg Pangi, died on the spot at Km6 Kg Bakoi at 7.15pm on Tuesday.

Deputy Supt Mazlan Lazim confirmed the incident, but classified it as a normal accident. The lorry driver was released after police recorded his statements.

It was learnt that the couple were on their way to town from Keningau and were trailing a Nissan-type lorry bearing a Sandakan plate number.

As the vehicles were approaching a single-lane bridge that is still being constructed, the car driven by Ramli rammed into the back of the lorry.

The impact severely damaged 50 per cent of the Kancil.

The victims died on the spot where their bodies were stuck from inside the car.

A Fire and Rescue Team had to be dispatched to extricate their bodies, before they can be rushed to the hospital.
