Kota Kinabalu: A 17-year-old motorcyclist was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a Kelisa in front of the Tong Hing Supermarket along Jalan KK Lama 6, here, early Sunday.

City Deputy Police Chief Supt. M. Chandra identified the deceased as Mohd Firdaus Gumbar, from Kg Warisan Inanam.

Preliminary investigation showed the Kelisa driven by a 29-year-old local man was heading towards Bukit Bendera from the Nagasaki Restaurant direction when the 1.30am accident occurred.

It was learnt that the motorcyclist suddenly came from the back lane and rode his motorcycle straight into the right side of the vehicle.

The impact caused the motorcyclist to be thrown several feet away.

He was subsequently rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Two by personnel from the Civil Defence Department who arrived moments later.

The victim, however, passed away at the hospital's Emergency Unit at 2.40am.

The case, Chandra said, is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

In a separate accident, a man sustained facial injuries when his Proton Saga skidded and landed on its side near the Anjung Selera food court in Likas Bay.

It was learnt that the man was heading towards the Sabah Foundation direction from the city centre when the 5.30am incident happened the same day.

The man was said to have lost control of his vehicle, which skidded and crashed into a lamppost before landing on its side along the route.

The man, who was bleeding profusely from the head, was rushed to the hospital by paramedics who arrived soon after.
