Body of drowned student found

Kota Kinabalu: The body of the 17-year-old student of SMK Likas, who drowned at a pond near the Industrial Training Institute in Sepanggar, was discovered Monday.

The victim, identified as Mohd Alnold Amin, had gone on a swimming and fishing trip with his three friends when the tragedy occurred at about 4.40pm on Sunday.

The Fire and Rescue Department mounted a search and rescue operation to trace the victim.

Also present at the scene were Karambunai Assemblywoman cum Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad, police and the Civil Defence Department personnel.

The body was only discovered at about 9.30am after the search and rescue operation resumed at 7am on Monday.

His remains were sent to the hospital for post-mortem.
