She said there was an urgent need for the dam as it could contain more water during the rainy season and prevent flooding.
"The floods caused much damage to agricultural areas which are the main source of income for residents and become a burden to residents who have to evacuate while their homes are also damaged," she said.
Azizah who is also the Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development urged the Department of Irrigation and Drainage to take the necessary steps to resolve the flood problem which put residents at risk.
She described the floods that hit Beaufort Thursday night as among the worst since 1981.
Most of Beaufort old town was inundated by water while the old bridge in the old part of town, one of the main thoroughfares to other districts like Sipitang, could not be used as the roads leading to it were under water.
