Turn KK Waterfront into tourist hotspot via sunset shows: Hiew
Published on: Wednesday, February 26, 2014

Kota Kinabalu: Luyang Assemblyman Hiew King Cheu intends to turn the space in front of the Waterfront in Kota Kinabalu as a popular tourist draw.

Hiew is mulling the idea to create a place for tourists to experience the local cultural music, traditional dances and art by local artists via a sunset performance opposite the Promenade Hotel.

Among the entertainment line-ups include singing, dancing, car shows and martial art demos.

It will also be a place for local and foreign performers to display their skills in the outdoor performance.

Andrew Lee Chee Keong from the Luyang Assemblyman office who initiated the trial-run of the Sunset Performance at Dataran KK Waterfront was pleased with the positive response and feedback from the crowd especially from tourists.

The ideal time would be from 5pm to 7pm when there is a beautiful sunset in the backdrop.

Meanwhile, to add to the colourful performance, he suggested for the local school brass bands to organise sunset performances at the Waterfront.

Lee said more people and groups have shown keen interest in performing there.
