Lahad Datu: Police seized 177.99gms of Syabu, valued at RM75,000, following the arrest of a woman at Bandar Sri Perdana.

It was believed to be the biggest seizure made by the police here in three years.

District Police Chief, Supt Shamsudin Mat said the 24-year-old suspect was believed to be involved in drug trafficking and was arrested at about 3.30pm in front of a restaurant.

"Acting on information and surveillance, a team of police from the Narcotics Unit arrested the suspect who was believed waiting for a friend.

"Upon inspection, we found a black-coloured plastic bag with seven packets containing crystal-like substances, believed to be Syabu," he said.

He said that the suspect, who is a temporary resident of Malaysia, is now detained for further investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

Meanwhile, Shamsudin congratulated the Narcotics Team for making three seizures of drugs in the district within two weeks.

He said the hard work shall continue in order to combat drug activities here.
