Man killed in S'kan collision

Sandakan: A 72-year-old man was killed when his car collided with a van at Mile 3 1/2, Jalan Utara, here, Thursday.

It was learnt that the victim, identified as Hiew Yu Choi, was heading to the main road from a village road before the mishap occurred at about 8.30am.

The van driven by a 36-year-old man was heading towards Mile 8 from the town.

The victim's car ended up hitting a 29-seater bus heading towards Bandar Indah, Jalan Utara before it came to a complete stop some 100 metres away.

A massive traffic congestion occurred along the stretch shortly after the accident.

The body was sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for post-mortem.

District Police Chief ACP Rowell Marong said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transportation Act 1987.
