A witness who declined to be named said the van, which looked like a tourist vehicle, hit the woman who was about to cross the road with a man, both Caucasians, in the 6.20pm incident.
"Motorists should be more cautious and drive slowly, particularly in the heart of the city, where there are many pedestrians," said the witness, who described them as an elderly couple. The van driver subsequently took the couple to a nearby clinic. They were later referred to the KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital for further treatment.
Those manning the hospital counter confirmed that a tourist was indeed being treated for an injured arm.
However, the tourist declined to meet the media for comments, saying it was partly due to her fault for crossing the road without being extra careful.
